ACT in the news...

"An ACT of generosity "
The Villager - August 24 2005

An Ascot based charitable trust made generous donations to a number of local causes during a special lunch at the Royal Berkshire Hotel on Tuesday afternoon last week.

The Ascot Charitable Trust (ACT) presented £13,500 worth of cheques to four specially selected local causes.

Alan Carr, Chairman of ACT, said:"We are absolutely delighted to be able to present these cheques. All of the causes are deserving in their own way. We just wish we could give even more."

The causes that will benefit from these donations are the Ascot Area Alzheimer's Support Group, the Heatherwood Hospital Maternity Ward, the Winkfield and North Ascot Good Neighbours Scheme and the Motor and Allied Trades Benevolent Fund (BEN).

The Ascot Area Alzheimer's Support Group (Triple A) provides respite for Alzheimers sufferers and takes them out on day trips to theatres, cinemas, and even pub lunches.

Una Rowston of Triple A said:"I am thrilled. We simply could not do all of our work if it were not for generous donations like this."

The Heatherwood and Wexham Park maternity wards will use the donation to buy a new syringe pump and baby changing units.

Karen Protor said:"Our facilities are already good, but donations like this help make our facilities amoung the best in the borough."

The Winkfield and North Ascot Good Neighbours Scheme arranges transportation for residents who cannot get to doctors' appointments, or who need to collect their pensions. The donation will help to pay for petrol and phone calls made to voluntary drivers.

Mary Savage, organiser of the scheme said:"This will be a tremendous help in everything we do."

BEN is a national charity responsible for running the Lynwood Nursing and Residential home in Sunninghill.

Chief executive of BEN, Gerard Barclay said:"All of the money that has been kindly donated to us by ACT will be spent helping our members in the Ascot area."

All of the money donated on Tuesday was raised by the Ascot Charity Ball in May, which also took place at the Royal Berkshire Hotel.
